Advancing Organotin Science. Supporting Responsible Innovation.

The global voice for organotin technologies — connecting manufacturers, regulators and science worldwide.

Who we are Our Work

About GOSC

Global Organotin Stewardship Council

The Global Organotin Stewardship Council (GOSC) represents major organotin manufacturers and the related technology sector in order to support its Members in advancing product stewardship, regulatory compliance, environmental responsibility and the safe use of organotin technologies across global markets.

Our vision

Promote growth, innovation, and corporate stewardship across the global organotin technology sector.

Established in 2021, GOSC aims to enhance understanding of the intrinsic health and environmental properties of organotin compounds while highlighting their benefits and communicating this information to ensure scientific consistency and clarity.

  • Cooperate towards the advancement of scientific understanding of the properties and benefits of organotin substances and technologies.
  • Advocate for the safe use, responsible handling, and socio-economic relevance of organotin-based substances.
  • Engage with stakeholders, policy makers, supply chains, and the global regulatory community to communicate scientific and regulatory findings.
  • Promote sound science, appropriate risk management, innovation, and corporate stewardship across the global organotin sector.

Organotin Compounds

GOSC focuses on organotin-based technologies that play a critical role in the performance, durability and safety of materials and applications used across industries worldwide.

Plastic

PVC Stabilization

One of the most important uses of organotin compounds is in polyvinyl chloride (PVC). During manufacturing and throughout is lifetime, PVC is exposed to heat, which can cause it to degrade, discolor, and weaken. Organotin stabilizers: prevent heat‑induced degradation, maintain colour and transparency, improve strength and durability, and work effectively at very low concentrations.

Chemical Reactions

Industrial Catalysts

Organotin compounds speed up chemical reactions without being consumed. They are widely used in: polyurethane foams (e.g. furniture, insulation), silicone sealants and adhesives, production of coatings and resins. In cathodic dip coating, they are used as catalysts to make the automotive coating processes possible. These applications rely on the efficiency and reliability of organotin catalysts, which help reduce energy use and manufacturing time.

Glass Coatings

A specific organotin compound, monobutyltin trichloride (MBTC), is used in the glass industry to form thin tin oxide coatings on bottles, jars, and flat glass. These coatings: reduce scratching and breakage, improve thermal performance, and help later surface treatments adhere better.
